Access to clean, fresh water is a vital concern in Haiti, where waterborne illnesses such as typhoid, cholera and chronic diarrhea are the cause of more than half the deaths in the country each year. Contaminated water is also one of the leading causes of childhood illness and the very high infant mortality rate in Haiti.
With help from Rotary International and Living Waters for the World, we have been able to install four large capacity clean water systems in Jacmel. Today, the very poor are identified and given coupons to exchange for potable water. The message of “Living Water” is presented at Calvary Church every Sunday.
